The people, companies and numbers in this example are invented.

What makes it work

  • A profile of three lines. It says who she is, what she does, and one thing that sets her apart: reports on her campaigns that the finance team trusts.
  • The size of the job. The brand’s turnover, her team and her budget come before her results, so the reader knows the scale first.
  • Results in sales and members. Online sales up 22%, and a loyalty scheme with 85,000 members in its first year. These are results a board cares about.
  • An early role kept short. Her first job has a single line. Nobody hiring a manager needs the detail of her years as an assistant.
  • A driving licence and a notice period. UK employers often want to know both. Her date of birth, marital status and photo are left out.

Make it yours

  • Write your profile last, for the job you are applying for, and keep it to three or four lines.
  • References are optional. Employers usually ask for them after an offer, and you can leave the section out to save space.
  • Use British spelling for UK jobs: organise, programme, licence.
