Indian CV format

An Indian CV is more detailed than a US resume. It usually has a photo, personal details and your notice period, and closes with a Declaration.

At a glance

  • Paper: A4.
  • Length: two or three pages.
  • Photo: usual. A recent, plain photo of your face, if your profile has one.
  • Personal details: often expected, such as date of birth, nationality and languages known.
  • Notice period: stated clearly.

The order

  1. Your name, photo and contact details
  2. Summary
  3. Skills
  4. Professional experience, most recent first
  5. Projects
  6. Education
  7. Certificates, achievements and awards
  8. Personal details and languages known
  9. Declaration

If you have no work experience yet, put your education first. The resume format for freshers has more on a first CV.

Notice period

State your notice period, such as 60 days, or that you can join immediately. Recruiters in India often filter on it, and it affects when you could start.

CTC

Your current and expected CTC stay off the CV unless you add them. Many people leave them off and share them when a recruiter asks, so the figure can fit the job.

Marks

Give your marks as a percentage or CGPA, as they appear on your certificates, with the board or university and the year.

The Declaration

An Indian CV often ends with a Declaration: a sentence saying the details are true, with your place, the date and your name. In the builder, switch on the Declaration section: it has the usual words, which you can change.
